Market Monitor

The Market Monitor is a dynamic application that allows you to view specific securities based on portfolios that you have created and customized. It automatically updates security information based on market movements and allows for easy viewing on the desktop. First time users: please click on the edit button which will take you the Bloomberg.com Portfolio Tracker where you can enter the securities you wish to monitor.

Market Index Display

At the top of the Market Monitor you get 3 indexes - the DOW, the S&P 500, and the NASDAQ - for "free". The first number after the index (in white) is the current value of the index. Note that the number will be followed by a red down arrow if the most recent update to the index is lower than the previous update; and it will be followed by a green up arrow if the most recent update to the index is higher than the previous update. The second number after the index is the change from the close of the last trading day. This number will be in green if the index is up and red if the index is down.

Edit Button

Click on the edit button whenever you want to add/delete securities to/from your portfolio. Your portfolio will be launched in a separate window where you can make the changes.

Functions/Buttons

Upon entering the Market Monitor the first portfolio on your list will appear as a default. Select your desired portfolio using the green "Portfolio" drop-down field to start monitoring your securities. The monitor will then automatically update security information when there is a transaction on that stock.

There are four main colors used within the monitor. Black is used for columns containing neutral figures (i.e. time and volume). Red signifies a security is down. Green signifies a security is up. When a data point turns blue it signals that the figure is poised to change and it is updating or processing new information on a particular security.

Note: The Market Monitor does not provide real time data. Due to contractual agreements with various exchanges we are not allowed to show real time market data on our free website. Consequently, the Market Monitor functions on a reporting delay of approximately 15 minutes.

Reload

The Reload button refreshes the data on the Market Monitor screen. If you have changed any of the data in your portfolio, clicking the Reload button will update the Market Monitor with the updated changes.

Options

The Options button allows for the customization of the market monitor. Click on the "Options" button to begin customizing the view of your monitor. A pop-up window will appear with two tabs.
